Brother of late PBSO deputy pleads guilty to bank fraud

The brother of a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy who shot his ex-girlfriend and then killed himself, pleaded guilty to bank fraud on Friday in connection with a credit card scheme he ran while managing a jewelry store in the Mall at Wellington Green.

Frank Dunkow, 52, faces a maximum 30-year prison term and $1 million fine when he is sentenced. No sentencing date was set during the hearing before U.S. District Judge Robin Rosenberg.

Dunkow was indicted on Oct. 12, the same day his brother, Michael DeMarco, shot his girlfriend, Yuly Solano, and then fatally shot himself at a condominium complex on Federal Highway in Boynton Beach where they both lived.

As part of his plea deal, Dunkow agreed to pay nearly $400,000 in restitution to banks that were victims of his fraud. He is to show up at his sentencing hearing with a check for $100,000, his first restitution payment.

He admitted that while managing Littman Jewelers from June 2010 to March 2011 he regularly allowed people to use counterfeit credit cards to purchase thousands of dollars of expensive baubles. His unnamed co-conspirators, from Miami, would show up with “a stack of credit cards” and would be allowed to repeatedly try different cards until they produced one that would accept the charges, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Jorgensen.

Dunkow, represented by attorney Michael Salnick, was allowed to remain free on bond until he is sentenced.
