BREAKING: Threat to ‘shoot up’ school leads to St. Lucie teen’s arrest

A 14-year-old Port St. Lucie boy was arrested Friday after he allegedly made threats to “shoot up” a school after he was suspended this week.

The threat was made Tuesday, one day before an armed intruder fatally shot 17 people at Douglas High School in Broward County, but was brought to the attention of Port St. Lucie police Friday by a parent whose child shared a post from social media, Port St. Lucie Police Detective Sgt. Charles Lumpkin said.

Report: Students won’t return to building where shooting occurred

The teen was taken into custody at the St. Lucie County Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Fort Pierce. The Palm Beach Post does not identify juveniles charged with crimes unless they have been charged as as adults. St. Lucie County authorities could not confirm the teen’s status Friday.

The teen, a student at Southport Middle School, was serving a 10-day suspension at the time of the posting, Lumpkin said.

According to police, the teen has posted several concerning photos on social-media accounts during the past year and last summer posted of picture of himself holding a rifle with the caption “Future criminal.”
