Police activity in the area has prompted a lock down at JFK Middle School in Riviera Beach.

3:10 p.m. UPDATE: School district and city police have lifted a lockdown at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Riviera Beach after a report of a weapon at the school was determined to be unfounded.

Police investigated a report that a student was in possession of the weapon, but nothing was found, a school district spokeswoman said.

Original story: A lock down has been imposed at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Riviera Beach due to police activity in the area, a Palm Beach County school district spokeswoman said.

As of 1:35 p.m., the school was under a code yellow lock down, meaning the classes continue as normal but no one is allowed either to enter or leave the campus, spokesman Julie Houston Trieste said.

Nearby Suncoast High School and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School were under brief lockdowns that have since been lifted.

Trieste said she could not confirm what type of incident police were investigating. A Riviera Beach police spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.
