Months after its first Spanish-speaking act, the Boca Black Box Theater continues its season of Venezuelan comedians.

“We didn’t know there was a big market for Spanish material in Boca,” owner Randy Singer said.

Venezuelan comedian El George Harris booked a show at the theater in May for Mother’s Day and the response was explosive. Within two weeks, the show was not only sold out but had a waiting list of more than 100 people. All the people on the waiting list were from Palm Beach County.

Singer decided to book more Hispanic acts and, with the help of his bartender’s Venezuelan mother, they came up with a list of comedians including Emilio Lovera, David Comedia and Erika de la Vega.

The season will end this year with two acts: Judy Buendia and Orlando Urdaneta.

Even though Singer wants to keep bringing in Spanish-speaking acts, he acknowledges Hispanic-act sales will start to wind down.

“We plan on continuing next year but if the Hispanic community doesn’t support it, it might get lost,” he said.

If there are any Hispanic acts you’d like to see come to town, whether musical or theatrical, contact the theater through mail or (561) 483-9036.
