Spring break 2018: Here’s 9 of our favorite breakfast on the beach spots

Spring break is almost here. And that means it’s time to hit the beach. What better way to start the day than with a tasty breakfast by the water.

Here are some Palm Beach County eateries where the only thing better than the eggs are the excellent water views (and the perfect place to walk off all those calories):

Lazy Loggerhead Cafe, Carlin Park

The almond-coated, thick-cut French toast earns raves at this small, casual beach shack. Those watching their waists might want to order the Lighthouse Breakfast: choice of muffin, bagel or toast with fresh fruit cup and coffee.

Open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. Parking is free.

Johnny Longboat’s, Singer Island

You want to dip your toes in the Atlantic? In the Sunshine State, you can’t wade any further into the ocean than on Singer Island, Florida’s easternmost point. Before you get your feet wet, stop at Johnny Longboat’s at the beach’s Ocean Mall for pigs in a blanket (sausage links rolled inside pancakes).

On weekends, Johnny Longboat’s sister Ocean Mall restaurant, Two Drunken Goats, also serves breakfast. Think crab omelets and huevos rancheros.

Open from 7 a.m. to midnight daily. Parking is free.

Dune Deck Cafe, Lantana Municipal Beach

Lantana’s beach has suffered from erosion more than many beaches in the county, and at high tide, the strip of sand is particularly narrow. That doesn’t detract from the views (and sounds) that can be enjoyed while dining and drinking al fresco at Dune Deck Café, located high above the waterline. Keep in mind: Dune Deck is cash only, although an ATM is parked out front.

Open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekends. Parking is $1.50 per hour.

How to choose the right container for storing your leftovers

I live for leftovers. Or, more accurately, I live off leftovers. My weekend routine includes making at least one large-batch dish to have dinners for easy weeknight meals, and my husband often does, too. Peek into our refrigerator at any time and you'll probably find a motley assortment of containers filled with food. If only I put as much thought...

Chestnut Oak is a young winery north of Charlottesville, Virginia, that is in distribution and showing promise. The whites are better than the reds, including a crisp, refreshing bottling of vidal blanc and a richer, tropical fruity petit manseng. Also this week, a lovely, delicate red from northern Italy, a minerally sauvignon blanc from the Loire...

In the last surge of winter, when hearty braised meats simmer away in the kitchen, as they have for months, and the spring’s bounty still seems weeks away, fresh, seasonal vegetables — and time in the garden — can seem like a distant memory. But they don’t have to be. It’s a point the chef, educator and food activist Darina...
