Spring Break 2016: 10 best beaches in South Florida

It’s time for Spring Break 2016! Here are our picks of the best beaches in South Florida and Palm Beach County.

Arranged in order from north to south Palm Beach County:

1. Coral Cove: This tiny Tequesta beach, which is the northernmost in Palm Beach County, attracts snorkelers to its rocky shore. Bonus: You can walk to the sublime Blowing Rocks Nature Conservancy from there.

1600 S. Beach Road, Tequesta, 561-624-0065, free parking

2. Carlin Park: What are you looking for in a beach experience? You’ll likely find it in Jupiter’s megapark, the largest county-maintained beach park, which comes with a side of soft, clean sand.

400 S. State Road A1A, Jupiter, 561-629-8775, free parking

3. Juno Beach Park: The Juno Beach Pier is the crown jewel of this stretch of coastline, and it costs only a buck to stroll its 990-foot length.

14775 U.S. 1, Juno Beach, 561-624-0065, free parking

4. John D. MacArthur State Park: The county’s only state park, MacArthur is a must-visit attraction for nature lovers in this neck of the mangrove forest. A walk across a 1/3-mile boardwalk leads to an undeveloped, and typically unpopulated, beach.

5. Palm Beach Municipal Beach: The island’s Midtown Beach boasts the easiest access, and toniest address, of any beach in the county. And remember, the window shopping on Worth Avenue is always free.

375 S. Ocean Blvd., Palm Beach, 561-838-5483, $5 per hour for parking

6. Lake Worth Municipal Beach: From Benny’s on the Beach to a beloved pier, from an Olympic-size pool to modern monkey bars that kids will have to be pulled away from, this park has more to offer than just grains of sand.

10 S. Ocean Blvd., Lake Worth, 561-533-7395, $2 per hour for parking

7. Ocean Ridge Hammock Park: At this secluded beach, the journey is as enjoyable as the destination. The zig-zagging, 300-foot path through a lush, shady hammock rivals any surf-soaked sunrise.

8. Boynton Beach Oceanfront Park: Friendly staff. A snack shack serving strawberry lemonade. Soaring “sunguards” providing shade. And, unlike most county parks, which roll up the sidewalks at sunset, this facility remains open till 9 p.m.

6415 N. Ocean Blvd., Ocean Ridge, 561-742-6565, parking is $5 per vehicle May 1-Nov. 15 and $10 per vehicle Nov. 16-April 30

9. Delray Municipal Beach: Proximity to bustling Atlantic Avenue gives this 7,000-foot landscape a high-rent feeling. This is a beach for the beautiful people, and for volleyball players who battle it out on seven well-maintained courts.

South Ocean Boulevard (centered at Atlantic Avenue), Delray Beach, 561-272-3224, $1.50 per hour

10. Red Reef Park: The price of admission is high — it costs $18 to park on weekends — but this beautiful, family-friendly beach is South County central for snorkelers, whether beginning or experienced.

1400 N. Ocean Blvd., Boca Raton, 561-393-7974, parking is $16 weekdays and $18 on weekends and holidays
