#National Walkout Day: Local students rally today on anniversary of Parkland shooting


Thousands of Palm Beach County students are expected to take part in national walk-out day today, the one-month anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. They have planned speeches in school courtyards, drives to register fellow student voters and petitions to convince lawmakers to act on laws they believe will help to curb gun violence.

The 17 who died at the Parkland School shooting will be represented by empty desks at Suncoast High’s courtyard. Students have speeches, letter campaigns, voter registration planned.

Lines are getting longer here as students file out for the 17-minute ceremony. The plan is to read the names of the victims when the students are gathered in the football stadium.
