Large menu, comfort foods at Newk’s Eatery

MENU

Comfort foods are a staple at Newk’s Eatery, which offers a wide selection of sandwiches, soups, salads and pizzas, plus mac and cheese. Diners can make their own combo meals — we tried a couple — and can top off their meals with a slice of 12-layer cake. Sides include fruit, chips, pasta salad and Tippah County Caviar, which actually is a combo of black-eyed peas, green onions and bell peppers.

ATMOSPHERE

Open and friendly, with wide spaces and plenty of tables. There is outdoor seating, which we took advantage of during our visit. We loved the condiments table, which included pickles, bread sticks, croutons and more.

YOUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

We tried a pair of sandwich combos ($11.89 for a whole sandwich and side/$9.69 for a half), plus a five-cheese pizza ($8.59). The pizza featured mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, smoked gouda and goat cheese with sun-dried tomatoes over basil pesto sauce. Delicious. For our two sandwich combos, we tried grilled chicken paired with chicken tortilla soup, and Newk’s “Q” (grilled chicken, bacon, swiss cheese and barbecue sauce on toasted French bread) paired with chicken sausage gumbo. The sandwiches weren’t large, but had plenty of flavor, while the soups had an appropriate amount of kick.

REASON TO GO

Definitely the food. We plan to go back and try new things.

SERVICE

Newk’s features counter service. We placed our orders at the front, were given a number, and then took a seat outside. Our meals were brought to us a short time later.

NOISE LEVEL

The eatery wasn’t busy during our early Saturday evening visit, so noise was not a concern.

KID FRIENDLY

Absolutely. The Little Newk’s kids menu includes pizza, macaroni and cheese and three different kinds of sandwiches.
