7 hot stops for a daycation in Palm Beach

Need a daycation? Skip the flight and the long drive. You live in Palm Beach County, my friend. That means you live a quick drive away from Palm Beach Island.... Where the palm trees make anyone with a smartphone an amateur photographer. Where the abundance of Teslas and Rolls Royces and Maseratis make the streets feel like a 24/7 car show. Where one-of-a-kind restaurants and flower-framed courtyards will put Florida state far from your mind. So there's no need to travel far at all.

But Palm Beach Island is not only for the rich and so-called famous. It’s for anyone who wants a daycation. So don't be intimidated. Instead, grab your favorite person and give yourself at least eight hours to explore, to chill and, most of all, to forget what you left on the other side of the Intracoastal.

PARK YOUR CAR HERE FOR FREE

  • Worth Ave.
  • Sunrise Ave
  • Sunset Ave
  • Hammon Ave
  • Gulfstream Ave
  • Peruvian Ave

Pro Tip: Parking is free for two hours on most of the streets parallel to Worth Avenue, including those listed above. Just look for the signs. Or you could leave your car in West Palm at one of the city garages and rent a Skybike instead.

GRAB AN ICED CHAI TEA LATTE AT STARBUCKS (IF YOU CAN FIND IT)

  • There’s no kind of people watching quite like the kind you can do here. The coffeehouse is located on Worth Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, but remember to walk under the ... and through the ... to find it *wink wink*. It won’t be in plain sight. Kinda kidding. It’s next to Sak’s Men’s Store in a sort of courtyard. If you see Gucci or Louis Vuitton, you’re headed in the right direction.

Pro Tip: While you’re on Worth Ave. — after you grab your Starbucks — walk west, away from the water, to the stop light. Look left. Grab your phone and snap a selfie in front of one of Palm Beach’s most high-profile gardens: The Living Wall.

Starbucks; 150 Worth Ave #110, Palm Beach; (561) 651-7740

INDULGE IN THE ARTS AT THE SOCIETY OF THE FOUR ARTS

Pro Tip: If you ever just need a day out of the office, you know, to actually get stuff done for work, the library here is inspiring.

The Society of the Four Arts;  2 Four Arts Plaza, Palm Beach; (561) 655-7227; Facebook Page

CHICKEN SALAD AND SOUP AT TOOJAY’S IS THE GO-TO

  • For a light lunch — because you still have a lot of day-cating to do — opt for TooJay’s, a Florida classic and a Palm Beacher’s favorite. We love the chicken salad with a side of soup. You won’t spend more than 12 bucks.

TooJay’s Gourmet Deli; 313 Royal Poinciana Way, Palm Beach; (561) 659-7232

DESSERT? YOU HAVE TO! ICE CREAM

  • Sprinkles has some of the best ice cream in town — like not just the town of Palm Beach but in all of Palm Beach County. And since it stays hot outside, stop by when you decide you just can't take the heat. It's super cute — a great spot to grab a cold dessert before walking to the water

Pro Tip: Sprinkles is known for its chocolate ice cream, but a seasonal fav is the banana pudding ice cream and the rum raisin.

Sprinkles; 279 Royal Poinciana Way, Palm Beach; (561) 659-1140; Facebook page

DRINKS ... BECAUSE IT’LL BE 5 O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE

  • At The Breakers, the recently renovated Seafood Bar and HMF are the best places to drop in for a drink. There’s no VIP list or secret password but there are all kinds of goodness — stellar cocktails, food, ambiance and service.

HMF at The Breakers; 279 Royal Poinciana Way, Palm Beach; (561) 290-0104

WALK OFF YUMMY FOOD AND DRINKS WHILE SEARCHING FOR CHANEL

  • The Church Mouse: The thrift shop whose pedigreed antiques, fine jewelry and designer duds have gotten the interest of Martha Stewart on many occasions. *Closed during the summer
  • Goodwill Embassy Boutique: A well-curated shop on the island with a fine selection of artwork, jewelry and designer clothing.

SAY HELLO TO THE NICEST FRENCHMAN YOU’VE EVER MET

  • Maurice Amiel is the owner of The French Wine Merchant. No matter your level of wine tasting or knowledge, Maurice will provide personal service. Prices are reasonable and most of his wines are unique — not sold in chain or liquor stores.

Pro Tip: Don't miss his bi-weekly wine tastings (Fridays), which usually include 5-6 wines and a discount off any of the bottles featured in the tasting if you decide to make a purchase.
