Downtown West Palm: 10 awesome things to do on Evernia Street

Looking for fun things to do in West Palm Beach? Why not try exploring downtown one street at a time?

My roommates and I gave it a shot down Evernia Street and found delicious delights at every stop.

The east-to-west road is separated by the West Palm Beach Brightline station, where we started our adventure. We made stops at every open door heading east from Dixie Highway to Flagler Drive.

» DAY TRIP IDEA: Ride the Brightline train to Fort Lauderdale for a daycation

Here are 10 must-stops on Evernia Street (east of the train station):

 STOP 1: The Blind Monk

Small bites, tapas and wine. “Si, por favor.”

Our first stop at The Blink Monk is very Madrileña, except you’re not getting free tapas with each drink like you would in Madrid. This is still Florida.

It’s a great place to sit, relax and catch up with your friends over tasty appetizers. The place is small, intimate and classy, with a bar and just a few tables and chairs. I enjoyed the pan con tomate, fresh tomato pulp spread on grilled garlic bread, with a glass of red wine. In regards to the food, our Food Editor Liz Balmaseda tells it best:

“From the startlingly cold acai bowl — how do they get it so cold? — to the stunning avocado toast, options are pleasing here. Still, our heart belongs to the Gravlax Toast. Fresh pumpernickel bread topped with crème fraîche and arctic char, which we always think of as salmon’s chic older sister. It’s just the right amount of luxury and crispy — and even though we always say we’re going to save half, we never do.” — Liz Balmaseda

The Blind Monk410 Evernia St., #107, West Palm Beach, 561-833-3605.

STOP 2: Café Sweets

Oh, man. Do I love sweets. At Café Sweets, there are dozens of variations of creamy, rich and delicious cupcakes and cakes. Choose regular size cupcakes for $3.50 or mini cupcakes for $1.25 each. Saturdays are the days to go! You get six mini cupcakes for $5 or six regular cupcakes for $15.

According to the owner, Sharlyn Davis, the most popular flavors are red velvet and banana pudding. She also bakes all the cakes for Howley’s and Subculture Coffee. All the cupcakes are made at the Northwood Village store and brought here daily.

Cafe Sweets: 410 Evernia St. West Palm Beach; 561-249-7167.

STOP 3: West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault

Finally! Our own downtown brewery, West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault. I’ve been waiting for this since I moved from beer-heaven Denver almost two years ago. Here, you can choose from any number of craft beers: porters, blondes or IPAs. What’s cool about this place is they also serve finger-licking offerings, from a Neapolitan pizza bar to a variety of small plates, thin-crust pies, flatbreads, pressed paninis and salads.

“We’re going for a little more sophistication,” general manager Bruce Edel told Post Food Editor Liz Balmaseda in a December interview and walk-through.

Glasses of beer and wine start at $6. Don’t know which beer to get? Ask for the four-glass sampler.

West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault; 332 Evernia St., West Palm Beach; 561-619-8813.

STOP 4: Art, murals and Instagram

There’s a pair of stairwells in the Evernia Parking Garage that were decorated by the magic brushes (or spray cans?) of seven South Florida artists. They are on the corner of Evernia and Dixie and are open 24/7.

*Side note Let’s say you’re that friend that refused to eat at the brewery because you’re in a gluten, carb, sugar, dairy-free, paleo, vegan, H2O diet (Did I miss one?). No worries, you won’t be hungry. The next stop is an edible Garden of Eden. Cue the heavenly choir...

STOP 5: “Coming Soon” - Healthy options at Pipeline Poke Co.

Pipeline Poke Co. is getting ready to open on the corner of 310 Dixie and Evernia. They specialize in poke tuna bowls with fresh vegetables and colorful ingredients. They’ll also have chicken and tofu bowls.

“We're hoping the grand opening won't be later than the middle of March,” said Steve Schweighardt via a Facebook message.

To find out more on the opening, follow them on Facebook or Instagram.

Pipeline Poke Co.: 310 S Dixie Hwy Suite 300, West Palm Beach; 561-899-3288.

STOP 6: The Palm Beach Post Centennial Park

I’m not saying this because it was named after the company that signs my checks, but the Palm Beach Post Centennial Park is picture-perfect. Sitting on the south side of Evernia just west of Flagler, this park offers a lot of space surrounded by huge palm trees and views of the Intracoastal. You’ll often see people here playing with their dogs or tossing Frisbees.

A bonus park for pet lovers, my 🐶 Chunky loves sniffing around here.

He stood still!

The Palm Beach Post Centennial Park: 15 S Flagler Dr, West Palm Beach;  561-804-4900.

STOP 8: The Meyer Amphitheater

Across from Centennial Park, on the north side of Evernia, is the Meyer Amphitheater: the open-air performance center in the middle of downtown West Palm. When this place isn’t hosting famous and local musicians, it’s a place to play and work out (or watch people work out). Every Sunday,  “Sunday on the Waterfront,” offers a casual night of entertainment and live music.

The Meyer Amphitheater: 105 Evernia St, West Palm Beach. 561-822-1515.

STOP 9: Start unwinding at Purple Lotus

Can we talk about the scents in this lounge? I’m not sure if I’ve entered a Bath and Body Works store or a Hawaiian spa. The many scented candles stand out in a darkened room. It smells good though. The Purple Lotus is an awesome place to relax, work or have a conversation with friends while enjoying a cup of Kava. What’s Kava? I tell you here.

The space is large, with elevated ceilings and a super chill vibe. Oh, and you better like dogs because they hang out inside, on the couches and on your feet.

Purple Lotus: 255 Evernia St MU4, West Palm Beach; 561-379-3667.

STOP 10: Call it a day from the public dock

Now that you’ve stuffed your face with cupcakes, pizza, salads, poke bowls, and washed it all down with sedating mud water, walk east on Evernia down to the West Palm Beach Public Dock, South. Enjoy the panoramic view of downtown West Palm Beach and Palm Beach island.

Nothing like ending a day full of activities by staring at the water, smelling the breeze and feeling the wind on your face.

West Palm Beach Public Dock, South: South Flagler Drive and Evernia Street, West Palm.;  561- 822-1400.

🤙 Life is good, my friends. 🤙

As you probably know, Chunky goes pretty much everywhere I go. If you’re planning to bring your four-legged friend, Evernia Street can be very accommodating. Just skip stops 1, 2, and 5. The Blink Monk, Cafe Sweets and Pipeline Poke Co. are NOT dog-friendly, nor do they have patios for your furry friends.
