Liz recommends … Hog Snappers, Two Drunken Goats, Park Tavern

HOG SNAPPERS SHACK AND SUSHI

Say what you will about the often interminable wait for a table here, I never tire of visiting this storefront spot. I dream about the simply composed Cuban Avocado Salad with its gently acidic cilantro vinaigrette. And as for the wait, it’s made all the more bearable at the Tequesta Brewing Company, just a few doors north. By the time you finish your last gulp of TBC’s Der Chancellor, your table will be ready. Hog Snappers Shack and Sushi: 279 S. U.S. Highway One, Tequesta; 561-972-4724; HogSnappersShackAndSushi.com

TWO DRUNKEN GOATS

This Singer Island spot is part beach café, part Tex-Mex cantina, a spirited place with delicious fresh fish sandwiches. The blackened grouper sandwich here is out of this world. Two Drunken Goats: 2509 North Ocean Drive, Singer Island; 561-494-0201; TwoDrunkenGoats.net

PARK TAVERN

Stop here on your Delray pub grub tour and try glazed pretzel nuggets, deviled eggs, pork belly and meatball sliders. It’s a good stop on any Atlantic Avenue pub crawl. Park Tavern: 32 S.E. Second Ave. (at Worthing Place on Atlantic Avenue), Delray Beach; 561-265-5093; ParkTavernDelray.com

The gas vs. electric cooking debate: Fire away

As I watch forests and town on fire around the world, especially around California, I can feel to the bone the destructive power of this gift from God. Fire is probably the one thing that propelled mankind from being to a beast to this glorious stage of development. But perhaps God is giving us a very warm and vivid hint that unless we mend our profligate...

This spicy stir-fry only takes a few minutes to cook

Five-spice powder gives this stir-fry its intriguing taste. The flavors delicately glaze the ingredients. The spice is a pungent mixture of star anise, cinnamon, cloves, fennel seed and Szechwan peppercorns. You can use it to add a different flavor to other rice or vegetable dishes. The dish has several ingredients, but once they’re assembled...
