Apple fans looking for gifts or technical help at the company’s store in The Gardens Mall may be stuck driving to Wellington or Boca Raton this holiday season.
Eight months after Apple closed its Palm Beach Gardens location for remodeling, a reopening date for the store has yet to be announced. The store in The Gardens Mall, which closed in late March, is undergoing an expansion that will make it Apple’s largest location in Palm Beach County.
“We’re making the Apple Store you love even lovelier,” the company’s website says of the Palm Beach Gardens location. “Until we reopen, please visit apple.com/retail to find the nearest store.”
With just over three weeks left in the holiday shopping season, it’s unclear whether the store will reopen before Christmas. In an email Thursday, an Apple representative said the company has yet to announce its timeline for reopening the popular store.
Mall officials had a similar response, saying they couldn’t release details about the store’s opening.
Apple has two other Palm Beach County locations. Those stores are located at the Mall at Wellington Green and the Town Center mall in Boca Raton.
The Wellington store was busy Friday afternoon, but there were plenty of Apple employees in bright red shirts ready to assist customers.
Although Apple products like iPhones, iPads and laptops, can be purchased at other retailers in northern Palm Beach County, the company’s stores provide technical help through their Genius Bar services. Reservations for the in-store support can be made online through the Apple’s website.
As of Friday afternoon, Apple’s online reservation system showed weekend appointments were still available at both the Wellington and Boca stores.
The remodeled Palm Beach Gardens store comes as mall officials try to adjust to a shifting retail environment. The Gardens wants to move away from its heavy emphasis on luxury goods by bringing in a greater variety of retailers appealing to consumers of all types.
Tesla plans to open a retail showroom at the mall next to Saks Fifth Avenue, while Jupiter-based Park Avenue BBQ Grille will open on Dec. 8 near the Sears department store in space previously occupied by Counter Burger.
