Monday Meeting: D.B. Wienke advises people on how to maximize LinkedIn

If you think social networking site LinkedIn is a waste of time, you may be getting it wrong, says D.B. Wienke, owner of LinkedIn Club.

Wienke, based in West Palm Beach, shows business leaders how to monetize the time invested in LinkedIn. She works with large and small business worldwide.

Name: D. B. Wienke. My nickname, “D.B.,” short for my first and middle names, was earned during childhood from torturous older brothers. It’s a classic story.

Age: Over 40

Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pa.

Where you live now: In downtown West Palm Beach, the ultimate in convenience. Walking to meetings or catching a plane is “Uber” easy.

About your company: Most businesses seek a steady stream of new customers, new referrals, and new revenue and my company, LinkedIn Club, solves this challenge and helps to get the job done. There are one million-plus LinkedIn members in greater Palm Beach County representing all kinds of working professionals. On average, LinkedIn members earn six figures in income and are decision-makers.

How your business has changed: LinkedIn is now mainstream — yet the majority of LinkedIn profiles are skeletal resumes. Managing partners and business owners really miss out on free search engine optimization from LinkedIn. Our award-winning writers fix that. Our affordable VIP training sessions further develop this, using “The Most Authoritative Guide to LinkedIn” co-authored by me, a book to kick-start your success and earn return on investment right away. Once our client, always our client with our LinkedIn Club.

First paying job and what you learned from it: One summer, I delivered daily newspapers from my bike in Chautauqua, N.Y. As the first newspaper girl ever, I felt a sense of pride at rising early, being accountable for consistent delivery and for collecting payment.

First break in the business: As a former chief marketing officer, I was there when digital marketing launched in a big way. I took a gamble that worked. LinkedIn Club now has four areas: optimize profiles, offer group or individual coaching sessions, ghost write blogs and keynote presentations. We work within many business verticals locally and nationally with those leaders who want to leverage LinkedIn success made easy with our help.

Best business book you ever read: Any book by Malcolm Gladwell stretches my knowledge with his fundamentally different and unconventional perspective.

Best piece of business advice you ever received: Ask for help, even when you don’t think you need it. That was before mentoring became vogue.

What you tell young people about your business: Apply for internships and learn early what ignites your passion.

What do you see ahead for Palm Beach County? Explosive growth. Brightline from All Aboard Florida will link Palm Beach County with other cities in a whole new way.

Where we can find you when you are not at the office: Planning my next travel adventure to destinations near and far. And working on my golf game.

Favorite smartphone app: LinkedIn, naturally.

What is the most important trait you look for when hiring? Smarter or more talented than me.
