South Florida ranks among the least likely metro areas to land Amazon’s second headquarters, according to a Zillow survey.
Zillow asked 85 housing economists and professors to predict the winner of Amazon’s HQ2. Atlanta and Northern Virginia tied as the most likely suspects, according to the survey.
Miami ranked in the back of the pack, tied with New York and Newark and just ahead of Los Angeles.
Economic developers in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties made a joint pitch for Amazon’s headquarters. Amazon last year narrowed the list to 20 finalists.
Most predictions give South Florida long odds. Irish betting site PaddyPower.com ranked the Miami region as a 20-1 long shot, and Florida International University researchers likewise say South Florida’s chances are slim.
Moody’s Analytics is the one expert to say Miami has a good chance at landing the economic development prize.
