$139 million Florida mansion believed to be priciest home in U.S.

Front doors inlayed with 22-carat gold leafing, and a $2 million marble staircase are included in what is believed to be the highest priced home in the continental U.S. — a Hillsboro Beach mansion listed Thursday for $139 million.

The 60,000-square-foot French-inspired estate has 465 feet of ocean front, a 492-foot dock that can accommodate a 185-foot yacht, an underground garage with parking for more than 30 cars, 11 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms.

It also boasts the first ever IMAX Theater contracted for private use, featuring a 50 by 27-foot screen and seating for 18.

The coastal Town of Hillsboro Beach is between Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach in Broward County.

Coldwell Banker Realtor William P.D. Pierce is representing the seller, who the Wall Street Journal says is a trust tied to Robert Pereira, the founder of Middlesex Corp., a Massachusetts-based construction company that also has offices in Florida.

While still under construction, the home, called Le Palais Royal, is scheduled to be finished by the end of next year, according to a press release.

“This grand palace will be a landmark that rivals Europe’s greatest palaces,” Pierce said in a news release. “A true masterpiece, it is adorned with custom detailing exclusive to its design and incomparable finishes.”

In comparison, Palm Beach County’s priciest listing is a $59 million oceanfront mansion at 89 Middle Road on Palm Beach. Brown Harris Stevens Realtors Carole Hogan and Carol Digges are co-listing the home with Corcoran Group Realtors Paulette Koch and Dana Koch. The home has been on the market for about three years.

Celine Dion’s Jupiter Island home, which is in Martin County, is listed at $62.5 million, a $10 million decrease from its initial September 2013 list price.

In June 2013, a $42 million Palm Beach “spec” mansion sold after dropping its price from $74 million. The sale of the home at 1220 S. Ocean Blvd. marked the second highest price paid for a lakefront home that does not extend to the ocean.
