Dave George

Started in The Post's sports department in 1978. Nothing much has changed since then ... well, except for going from typewriters to computers and covering four pro franchises in this market instead of one and flying to games in jets instead of on the backs of pterodactyls. If you have been a loyal reader all these years, bless you. With all that's happened in technology, there still are worse things than a little newsprint on the fingers.

Dave George: Derek Jeter’s latest error a real piece of art
This is classic. The Miami Marlins are on an austerity program for fans, briskly stripping the club of its most watchable talent, and now the one asset with any kind of spectacular qualities is on the demolition list, too? Yes, Derek Jeter and the rest of the team’s new ownership group are offended by the gaudy home-run sculpture out...

Dave George: New FAU AD will need to babysit Lane Kiffin
Pat Chun goes into every job with his eyes wide open. He can handle being Mike Leach’s athletic director at Washington State, a move soon to be announced, just as he officially handled the hiring of Lane Kiffin at Florida Atlantic and confidently answered all the tough questions about said hire. And just as Chun handled leaving...

Eagles are only conference finalist that Miami doesn’t play next year
So the Miami Dolphins are trying to bounce back from a 6-10 clunker of a season and this is what happens? Three of the four teams in the NFL’s conference championship round are on Miami’s Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Cam Robinson on the sideline duting an divisional round game against the Pittsburgh

Dave George: Now Dolphins are even looking up at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Miami Dolphins have been trying for years to be like the New England Patriots, reigning kings of the NFL and eternal potentates of the AFC East, when it’s a more realistic goal that is within reach. Resolve first to reach the level of the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that after nearly a quarter century in operation still sounds...

Dave George: Erik Spoelstra’s Heat overachieving at halfway point
Halfway through the Miami Heat season, and they continue to amaze. What, you don’t think 24-17 is fairly spectacular in a league where the true championship contenders don’t really get cooking until the playoffs? Can’t argue too vehemently, since that’s the overriding theme of every NBA season. Still, just a little...

Dave George: Intrigue surrounds PyeongChang Games
The PyeongChang Winter Olympics are a month away and the whole, two-week spectacle is taking place closer to the DMZ than West Palm Beach is to Miami. What, in this age of reason, could go wrong? The most optimistic answer to that one is to say that the planet kept right on spinning the last time South Korea staged an Olympics, which just...

Mullen and Gators need to join SEC’s parade of true freshman quarterbacks
If Dan Mullen doesn’t start Emory Jones at quarterback next season, the Florida Gators hired the wrong coach. That’s because freshmen are all the rage in college football these days. No more waiting around to get the system completely

Dave George: Jon Gruden’s splashy rehire by Oakland Raiders no guarantee of success
Seeing Jon Gruden back in the NFL, a major coup for the Oakland Raiders, has me wondering again. What is the surest solution for any team looking to shake off the doldrums and make a serious run at the Super Bowl? And, to go along with that, why didn’t it work for the Miami Dolphins when they got their last splashy hire, Nick Saban?...
