Texas A&M to reportedly go after Jimbo Fisher, per USA Today report


Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher is expected to be pursued by Texas A&M University at the end of the football season, according to a report from USA Today

Two sources familiar with the situation are cited as saying Texas A&M will inquire about Fisher’s interest in coaching the Aggies after they separate from their current head coach Kevin Sumlin at the end of the season. 

USA Today writes that one person close to Fisher said his ties to Texas A&M athletics director Scott Woodward coupled with Florida State’s tumultuous season are reasons why the Aggies would reach out to Fisher.

Woodward was an administrator at LSU when Fisher was hired as the Tigers offensive coordinator in 2000. According to the report, the two have remained friends and talk often. 

Texas A&M isn’t the first program to come after Fisher. LSU pursued Fisher in each of the past two offseasons. Instead, Fisher signed a contract extension with Florida State in 2016.

The Seminoles are 3-6 this season and must win their final three games against Delaware State, Florida and Louisiana-Monroe to become bowl eligible for the 36th consecutive year.
