Marlins trade Yelich to Brewers for four prospects

The Miami Marlins have traded outfielder Christian Yelich to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for four prospects.

Yelich, who represented Team USA in the World Baseball Classic in 2017, slashed .290/.369/.432 and won a Gold Glove during his five seasons with the Marlins.

Miami received one of baseball’s top prospects, Lewis Brinson, in the deal. Brinson, who was drafted out of Coral Springs High School by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft, was rated the best prospect in the Brewers’ system and 18th-best prospect in baseball by Baseball America.

In addition to Brinson, the Marlins received 22-year-old outfielder Monte Harrison, the Brewers’ fifth-best prospect, and middle infielder Isan Diaz, Milwaukee’s ninth-best prospect, according to Baseball America.

Pitcher Jordan Yamamoto, 21, was also acquired by the Marlins in the deal.

The Marlins have now added four players rated in Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list this offseason.

"We've added three impactful position players and a middle-of-the-rotation starter," Marlins general manager Michael Hill told ESPN.

Reports indicate that the Miami’s busy offseason may not be over yet either, as the team may also look to move catcher J.T. Realmuto. The Washington Nationals are engaged in trade talks with the Marlins, with Miami asking for top prospect Victor Robles, an outfielder, in any deal for Realmuto, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
