2017 PALM BEACH POST GIRLS CROSS-COUNTRY ALL-AREA TEAM
RUNNER OF THE YEAR
Pia Beaulieu, Boca Raton, Fr.
Why: She improved as the season progressed and finished fifth at the Class 4A state championships in 18:23.52, just shy of her personal best. She was also a regional champion at 18:25.57. Finished second at the county championships at 18:30.45.
What was the highlight of your season? Getting fifth in states and consistently improving my times.
When did you first start playing your sport? I first started running track (800 meters and mile) in sixth grade. However, this was my first year ever running cross-country, and I could not have done it without my amazing coach and parents constantly pushing me to be the best I can be. I never truly train like other athletes in this sport since my main sport is soccer. One day I picked up the sport, and now it is part of me and I absolutely love competing.
What are your college plans? I look forward to continued success in track, cross-country, soccer, and academics in the hope that they propel me to an Ivy League or Division I school.
Who is the athlete you most admire, and why? Carli Lloyd (U.S. women’s soccer team) is my biggest inspiration because I feel as if I can relate to her “young life’’ and I aspire to be just like her one day.
What is the song that gets you most pumped up before a meet? The two songs that get me the most pumped up before a meet are “Glorious” by Macklemore and “Glamorous” by Fergie.
What’s your favorite social media tool and why? Snapchat, because it allows you to communicate in a way that is like no other media page.
What was your favorite movie this year? “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
