2017 PALM BEACH POST GIRLS BOWLING ALL-AREA TEAM
BOWLER OF THE YEAR
Nichole Lewis, Berean Christian, Jr.
Why? She was the lone girl from any Palm Beach school to reach the individual round of 16. There she finished with an 802 series, finishing eighth overall. Her game high 253 was the best of any girls’ bowler in the county. Finished with a 197 average and won a district title.
What was the highlight of your season? Making the top 16 at (the state tournament). And bowling a 299 at the Top 8 Tournament.
When did you first start playing your sport? At the age of 7
What are your college plans? Marine Biology and Veterinary Medicine
Who is the athlete you most admire and why? Jason Belmonte. When he started bowling he was made fun of because of the way he bowled, and he became one of the best bowlers in the world.
What is the song that gets you most pumped up before a game? “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC and “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John.
What’s your favorite social media tool and why? Facebook. You can find college bowling coaches and talk to them and share pictures and articles about things.
What was your favorite movie this year? “Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2.”
COACH OF THE YEAR
David Anderson, Jupiter: In just his first year as coach, he led his team to a 73-8 record and a 22nd-place finish at the state tournament, the highest of any Palm Beach school.
GIRLS FIRST TEAM
Samantha Clayton, Jupiter, Sr.: Part of a Warriors team that won a district title to reach fourth consecutive state tournament. Set a school-high game of 246.
Kacie Durr: Park Vista, Sr.: Had a four-game series of 682 at the state tournament. Helped Cobras to district title; had a 176 average.
Kayla Grudinsky, Jupiter, Jr.: Had a four-game series of 665 at the state tournament that included a game-high 233. Finished with a 182 average.
Mikayla Holder, Dwyer, Sr.: Placed third at districts and a rolled a 201 game at the state tournament. Had a 644 series at the state tournament.
Alexis Roberts, Jupiter, Sr.: Helped team to a district title and a trip to the state tournament. Completed the season with a 149 average.
Gina Landrum, Suncoast, Jr.: Was part of team that was a District 13 runner-up to Jupiter. Was team captain and a two-time state qualifier.
Sophia Venegas, Boca Raton, Sr.: Rolled a 534 series at the District 14 tourney to help Bobcats finish as runner-up. Season average was 141.
