Basketball: Wellington girls, boys earn tournament victories


Sydney Jones had 11 points and 15 rebounds, leading the Wellington girls basketball team to a 48-30 rout of Miami-Norland in the New Year’s Classic on Friday night in Miami.

Camryn Debose added 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Wolverines, who improved to 10-2 on the season.

Park Vista 47, Port St. Lucie-Morningside Academy 28: Brooke Bogatz had 22 points, six assists and eight steals and Cayla Polsky added 12 points, four assists, seven rebounds and two blocks as the host Cobras (7-4) handled the Eagles at the Lady Cobra Classic.

Oxbridge Academy 66, Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas 51: Kaylon Smith led in scoring with 20 points and Nashani Gilbert-Taylor added 12 as the Thunderwolves stopped the Raiders in West Palm Beach.

Berean Christian 63, Boca Raton Christian 17: Jenna Brannon had 21 points, Rachel Perez added 12 and Therezhina Graham contributed 11 as the Bulldogs (6-6) cruised past the Blazers in Boca Raton.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Wellington 70, Windermere Prep 59: Bryan Williams had 23 points, Jonathan Philistin added 12, Nico Toledo contributed 11 points and eight assists and Linton Brown scored 11 points as the Wolverines (13-0) handled the Lakers at The Rock Tournament in Coconut Creek.

Martin County 72, Benjamin 71: Jordan Travis scored 20 points and Kair Elam added 17, but the Buccaneers (8-4) fell when the Tigers made a layup at the buzzer at the Forest Hill Tournament in West Palm Beach.

Forest Hill 57, Somerset Canyons 39: Tristan Stephens had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Philip Lyttle added 10 rebounds and four assists as the host Falcons (11-1) defeated the Cougars at the Forest Hill Tournament.

Spanish River 72, Leeman Prep (N.Y.) 54: Jashone Anderson scored 20 points, Malacai Davis added 18 and Charles Westa contributed 17 as the Sharks (10-2) advanced to the final in the Rock Holiday Classic in Coconut Creek.

BOYS SOCCER

American Heritage 8, Key West 0: Alex Guichard scored three goals and Riley Ferch added two goals as the Stallions cruised past the Conchs.
