Rory McIlroy to play in 2018 Honda Classic

A former Honda Classic champion and four-time major winner will return to Palm Beach County to compete in the 2018 Honda Classic.

Rory McIlroy, who is currently taking a three-month break from golf due to lingering rib injuries, will play in the PGA Tour event, which will be held from February 19-25 at PGA National Resort and Spa.

McIlroy, who won the tournament in 2012, had six top-10 finishes while dealing with the injury during the 2017 season and hopes in 2018 to regain his status as one of the top golfers in the world.

>> It’s OK to start wondering again if Tiger Woods will return to the Honda Classic

“These three months (off) could give me the foundation to have the next 10 years be even better than the 10 years I've just had. That turns a great career into one of the greatest careers," McIlroy said.

The 28-year-old will join a field of world-class golfers, which could include Tiger Woods. Woods, who returned from a lengthy absence to finish ninth in the Hero World Challenge on Sunday, is undecided on whether or not he will play in the Honda Classic.
