Report: Former Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will join Dallas Cowboys staff

Former Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier appears poised to land on his feet after parting ways with the Gators following the 2017 season.

Jim McElwain’s former right-hand man will be the next tight ends coach for the Dallas Cowboys, according to a report from Todd Archer of ESPN.com.

The Cowboys are expected to name Doug Nussmeier as tight ends coach, according to sources. Nussmeier was the offensive coordinator at Florida last season. He has also been the offensive coordinator at Michigan and Alabama. He had a five-year NFL career as a backup quarterback with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. He was the quarterbacks coach for the St. Louis Rams for two seasons when offensive coordinator Scott Linehan was head coach. Like Linehan, he played collegiately at Idaho.

The news comes on the heels of a week’s worth of speculation that Nussmeier might be joining Ed Orgeron’s staff at LSU.
