Florida State falls 17 spots in CBS Sports’ college football rankings

The Florida State Seminoles saw its ranking continue to drop in CBS Sports’ weekly power rankings after a loss to Miami.

According to the site’s updated rankings from Monday, Florida State dropped a whopping 17 spots from No. 34 to No. 51 after losing to the Hurricanes 24-20 on Saturday.

That seems a little low, doesn’t it? It’s not as if the Seminoles got blown out of Doak Campbell Stadium. They did lose, but they only lost by four points – and on the game’s final play, at that. On top of that, Miami, who was ranked as the 12th-best team in college football, only went up one spot.

Sure, the perception of the Seminoles being a terrible team is there after starting the season 1-3. But, all things considered, they  did lose to Alabama and barely lost to the Hurricanes. We’ll grant that they lost to NC State, but the Wolfpack have shown great improvement thus far this year and are in the midst of a five-game winning streak. Even one of those games flipped to a win would have changed the optics of the state of the FSU football program in some form or fashion.

Florida State hits the road to visit Duke on Saturday.
