Dan Mullen praises new signee Jacob Copeland’s decision process: ‘This is where his heart wants him to be’

Jacob Copeland had one of the most memorable commitment moments from National Signing Day earlier this week when he chose the Florida Gators hat, only to watch his mother get right up and walk completely of the stage.

But before Signing Day Copeland had shed light on the stresses and struggles he was going through in the process to come a college decision, tweeting he had been crying and praying as he went back and forth on the right choice for his future.

Now after signing with the Gators, Copeland’s future head coach Dan Mullen is trying to help shift the narrative from what Copeland’s mother did after his announcement to the fact that Copeland really reached into himself to come to the decision he thought was best for him.

“The greatest thing I saw in that whole deal was a young guy that said, ‘I prayed, I cried, I went through everything, and my heart told me where I wanted to go to school. I did this because this is where I want to be,'” Mullen said during an ESPNU Radio appearance on Friday afternoon. “That to me shows what an emotional decision that can be for kids sometimes.”

“I was happy he’s going to come play for us,” Mullen said. “But more importantly, I’m happy that he really, this is where his heart wants him to be and that’s the reason he’s coming to be a Florida Gator.”
