An immediate contributor for the Arizona Wildcats is in legal trouble.

Arizona freshman safety Scottie Young was arraigned on a charge of domestic violence assault with minor injury on Thursday in Pima County Justice Court, according to a report from Caitlin Schmidt of the Arizona Daily Star. Young was initially scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, but was instead at Wildcats practice, with his attorney appearing in his place to request a rescheduling of the hearing.

The Pima County Attorney’s Office is determining whether Young qualifies for diversion, per the Daily Star’s report. If so, his hearing will be vacated, Pima County Justice Court spokeswoman Micci Tilton told the Daily Star.

Young was arrested by University of Arizona campus police on Sept. 27 after allegedly pushing a female student into a wall, spitting on her and threatening her, according to a UA police report.

Young admitted to police that he and the woman had an argument during which he grabbed her wrist and spat on her, according to the Daily Star.

The woman was also arrested in the incident, but the case against her was dismissed by prosecutors Wednesday, per the Daily Star.

Young appeared in all five of Arizona’s games, totaling 31 tackles.
