Florida State stocks up on cornerbacks, adding three 4-star recruits

Florida State landed just seven prospects in the early signing period. But four of those are among the top defensive backs in the nation.

Coach Willie Taggart filled one need for the future by stocking up on cornerbacks Friday, landing a trio of four-stars: Asante Samuel Jr. of Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, Isaiah Bolden of Zephyrhills (Fla.) Wesley Chapel and A.J. Lytton of Upper Marlboro, Md. All three are considered among the top 25 at their position in the class of 2018.

Samuel committed to FSU in April and was expected to sign with FSU in December or February. He is the son of Asante Samuel, who played in the NFL from 2003-13 with New England, Atlanta and Philadelphia.

Bolden committed to Taggart when he was Oregon’s coach and was viewed as a likely candidate to flip on Friday.

“This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid,” Bolden said.

With two backpacks on a table in front of him, one garnet for FSU and one green for Oregon, he reached into the green one to pull out an FSU visor.

FSU also signed five-star safety Jaiden Woodbey on Wednesday night, the top prospect in Taggart’s first signing class. Taggart said on Thursday that he expects the 2018 class to eventually total between 16-18 prospects.

Woodbey, Tallahassee Chiles linebacker Amari Gainer and Warner Robins (Ga.) offensive tackle Christian Armstrong plan to enroll early.
