Preschool children learned about beach safety at Lake Worth Beach Tuesday following a weekend of rip currents and heavy surf that sent swimmers to the hospital along the coast of Palm Beach County and killed a man swimming Sunday in Fort Pierce.
Lake Worth Ocean Rescue Chief Tim Ehmke taught the group of about 15 children and their mothers how to recognize a lifeguard, what to do if they’re in trouble in the water (wave their arms and call for help) and what to do if they see the red no-swimming flag like the one planted in the sand just north of the Lake Worth pier Tuesday.
