The South Florida Water Management District might return $3 million in federal disaster aid it received after hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 — not because the aid was unwarranted but to ensure that money is available for other communities seeking aid.
“It seems to be the right thing to do,” said Ernie Barnett, the district’s interim executive director. “But this does not change in any way our dispute with FEMA.”
