In a rare move, a storm that no longer was a hurricane when it struck land has received the highest badge of dishonor: its name has been retired.
The National Hurricane Center said today it had removed “Sandy” from its list of storm names, citing the system’s rampage through Jamaica, Cuba and the mid-Atlantic in late October.
