Surfers heading out to area beaches this weekend will be facing unusually high waves, some potentially as high as 10 to 12 feet, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a high surf advisory that will be in effect from 4 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Monday. A storm system in the mid-Atlantic region is pushing large swells to the south and producing large, breaking waves along the Florida coastline, said Barry Baxter, a weather service meteorologist.
