A fire in Indian River County destroyed a house and to the life of a family member Saturday, Feb. 3.
Brenda Baggett, 60, died after the fire broke out in the home around 10 p.m., according to TCPalm.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the State Fire Marshal, TCPalm reported.
Wyatt Crane, a 23-year-old relative was in the home when the fire started.
Crane was sleeping when the smell of smoke woke him up. He ran downstairs to check on Baggett, who is his aunt-by marriage, but said that “when he opened her door, thick black smoke filled the room and he could see orange flames in the corner where Baggett's bed was,” TCPalm reported.
"By the time I got out and across the street, the flames were higher than the back of the house," Crane told TCPalm.
The family was allowed to return the house Tuesday to salvage what they could from it. A GoFundMe page was created to help the victims.
