Reel fun and mighty good eatin’
Many folks travel to this tiny artist village 50 miles west of Gainesville for the island’s reel appeal — and, yes, we’re talking about fishing. When you see a sign on a shopkeeper’s door that reads “gone fishing,” believe it. And when you hear about the annual Seafood Festival Oct. 19 and 20th, it’s time to plan a visit. The 48th annual event, set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, brings 200 arts and crafts vendors to town and some of the best seafood around. Crab cakes, fish sandwiches, Cedar Key clams, oysters and fried mullet dinners along with barbecue and other kinds of yummy food will be served up in City Park. Besides the good eating and arts and crafts, you’ll find live music and tours of the nearby lighthouse on Seahorse. For more information, call 352-543-5436 or visit www.cedarkey.org/events.php.
