NEW RIVERBOAT: The American Queen Steamboat Co.’s American Queen is getting a sister ship. The company just announced the purchase of the Empress of the North from the U.S. Maritime Administration.
The 223-passenger riverboat will be renamed American Empress, and is scheduled to sail on the great rivers of the Pacific Northwest beginning next April. American Empress will homeport in Portland, Ore., and sail the Columbia and Snake rivers. The riverboat will offer seven-day voyages between Portland and Clarkston, Wash. Ports of call include Astoria, Wash.; Stevenson, Wash.; The Dulles, Ore.; Umatilla, Ore.; and Richland, Wash.
