Rep. Joe Abruzzo away from legislature because of illness

It’s a man down situation with Rep. Joe Abruzzo, D-Boynton Beach, who’s absent from the House for the second day in a row.

In a telephone interview Friday, Abruzzo said he’s returned to Palm Beach County where he’s under a doctor’s care after being diagnosed with both the flu and pneumonia.

The illnesses could have him missing in action from the House floor for up to a week.

“I’m a wreck,” he said.

Abruzzo, the minority whip, said he plans to visit the doctor again on Tuesday and if no longer contagious, will return to Tallahassee.
