Phil Mickelson’s up-and-down season hit a major down Friday when he shot a 1-over-par 73 to miss the cut at the Players Championship for the first time since 2000. His total was 145, one over par.
To make the cut, he needed only a par on his last hole, the par-5 ninth. Instead, Mickelson pulled his drive into the water and wound up with a bogey. He declined to speak to the media afterward, although he spent 20 minutes signing autographs.
