Michael Thompson’s calm, methodical approach to golf won’t work with the Rickie Fowler crowd and certainly didn’t lure any fans away from Tiger Woods on the weekend. But under the cold, blustery conditions at the Champion course at PGA National on Sunday, that style helped Thompson win the Honda Classic.
Thompson, 27, took sole possession of the final-round lead on the second hole and never wavered in marching to his first PGA Tour win, shooting a 1-under-par 69 for a four-round total of 9-under 271 and a two-shot victory over Geoff Ogilvy.
