Apparently, Pete Dye’s credentials — more than 90 courses designed and induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2008 — didn’t go too far with the Greens Committee when Gulf Stream Golf Club on A1A decided to redesign the front nine last year.
“I’ve been on that committee for years,” recalled Dye, 87, “and they said, ‘All right, we want you to do the job.’ Then all of a sudden they called and said, ‘We just want you to do one hole.’ That wasn’t going to work for me, so they went back to their meetings and decided to do all nine.
