Organizers of an international tennis event expected to bring 1,600 players from 38 countries to Palm Beach County next spring have confirmed eight host tennis facilities for the tournaments — four in Palm Beach Gardens and four in Boca Raton.
The International Tennis Federation’s Senior World Championships for players ages 35-55 is scheduled for April 21 through May 4 and is expected to generate more than $2.5 million in direct visitor spending in the county, according to the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens will be the north county host site. The Polo Club of Boca Raton will be the south county host site.
The other six tennis clubs scheduled to host the Senior World Championships are:
- The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens
- The Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center
- PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens
- Boca West Country Club
- Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club
- Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton
“The ITF Senior World Championships will bring international visitors and press attention to South Florida while attracting local tennis enthusiasts and club members from surrounding country clubs and resorts,” said Trish Faulkner, tennis director for BallenIsles and tournament chairwoman.
This year’s Senior World Championships, considered the highest ranked event for men and women on the ITF Seniors Circuit, was held in Antalya, Turkey. The only other American cities to host the event were San Diego, Calif., in 2012 and Fort Lauderdale in 2002.
Team competitions are scheduled for April 21-26 and will include 850 matches. Individual competitions, about 1,500 matches, will be held the following week.
