Florida Atlantic University’s president, under attack by some members of the faculty and student body for agreeing to have its football stadium named for a private prison company, has written an open letter extolling the school’s accomplishments and asking students, faculty and staff to remain positive.
On Feb. 19, FAU’s board of trustees approved an agreement by which Boca Raton-based GEO Group will donate $6 million over 12 years in exchange for the naming rights to the stadium. George Zoley, GEO’s chief executive officer, is an alumnus and former chairman of the board.
