The Marlins loosened the reins a bit on Jose Fernandez, and the 20-year-old rookie responded with a solid performance Friday night in Miami’s 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Facing the team with the best record in baseball, Fernandez struck out 10 and threw 107 pitches — both career highs —in seven innings, which tied a career high.
