It took almost a year, but Marlins pitcher Nathan Eovaldi finally responded to a nagging request from veteran catcher John Buck.
Eovaldi delivered his reply Sunday in the form of a rare, two-seam fastball, which tailed in toward Buck as he batted for the Mets.

• John Maine, who is competing for the fifth rotation spot, struck out two in two hitless innings in the Marlins’ 6-1 win over the New York Yankees. He lowered his spring ERA to 1.80.
• Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria went 2-for-2 with a single and two-run double. He had four total bases.
• Matt Downs made a nice play at third base to quash a Yankee threat in the second inning. He had a double and 2 RBI.
• Kevin Youkilis started at third base for the Yankees and went 0-for-3. He is hitless in nine at-bats this spring.
