And when the Marlins invited Green to return this offseason, it marked the first time since 2006 that he started spring training with the same organization in consecutive years.

• The Marlins beat Minnesota 6-2 in a game called after five innings because of rain. Miami’s Nathan Eovaldi threw all five innings. He gave up five hits, walked two and struck out three.
• Miami’s Christian Yelich tied for the major league spring training lead after hitting his fifth home run, a blast that landed in the lake beyond the right-field wall. Yelich (2-for-3) has 13 RBIs and is hitting .381.
• Infielder Chris Valaika, who played 33 games for the Reds in 2010 and 2011, was 2-for-2 including his first home run of the spring. He still is hitting just .161.
