The Cardinals will start the regular season Monday in Arizona with four significant players — Carpenter, shortstop Rafael Furcal, third baseman David Freese and closer Jason Motte — on the disabled list. Two are out for the season.

• In his final Grapefruit League outing, Jaime Garcia pitched eight innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out eight in St. Louis’ 10-1 victory over Washington.
• None of the players the Nationals brought to Jupiter on Wednesday are on the 40-man roster. The starting lineup included nine players with 20 combined at-bats this spring.
• CF Shane Robinson and 3B Daniel Descalso, the 1-2 hitters in the Cardinals’ lineup, combined for four hits, four runs and three RBIs.
