Third person hit by Brightline train since debut last week

Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run wreck; driver sought

A Port St. Lucie hit-and-run Saturday night claimed the life of 35-year-old Danilo Bicalho Dos Reis as he tried to cross the street in the 300 block of Northwest Airoso Boulevard.

Bicalho, who is Brazilian, was in the area for the holidays. He died before fire department emergency rescue units arrived.

According to the St. Lucie County sheriff’s office, a newer model, blue, four-door car and a red or burgundy car both stopped after Bicalho was struck.

“The blue car was described as the one that hit Mr. Bicalho, but both were said to have stopped, checked on the victim, and then quickly left the scene, driving south on Northwest Airoso,” said Sheriff Ken Mascara.

Mascara said the department is looking for witnesses.

“Investigators will be recovering video from surveillance cameras in the area, but we need the public’s help in bringing closure to this family,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1 or (772) 465-5770 or report an anonymous tip through Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at www.tcwatch.org or by calling (800) 273-8477.
