A 16-year-old boy whose family recently sent him to a Palm Beach County treatment facility to get help for depression and drug use is now missing and feared drowned, and his family is questioning the facility’s supervision, among other things.
Billy Patient, a resident of the Melbourne-area community of Viera, has been missing since Sunday when he and other residents of the The Academy, run by the countrywide American Addiction Centers, spent a day at Juno Beach. The U.S. Coast Guard, which has been searching for the boy since then, suspended their efforts Tuesday morning.
