A YouTube video showing top executives at the South Florida Water Management District texting and using computers while a Florida Audubon representative was addressing them at a contentious hearing on water pollution has garnered several thousand hits and an apology from the district.
The 96-second video was shot by Stuart resident Kenny Hinkle Jr. during a meeting of the district’s Water Resource Advisory Commission last Thursday. The meeting drew over 100 activists angry about polluted, fresh water being flushed from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie Estuary. The releases have killed oysters and sea grasses and caused toxic green algae to blossom throughout the waterway. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE VIDEO
