Taxes would go down and employees would get raises under the proposed 2013-2014 budget of the South Florida Water Management District but the seemingly good news comes with a price: cuts to projects and employee benefits.
The proposed tax rate approved by the governing board on Thursday means property owners in the 16-county district, including those in Palm Beach County, would pay 41.1 cents per $1,000 of taxable property value. That rate is about 4.2 percent less than this year, when property owners paid 42.9 cents per $1,000 of taxable value.
