A federal gambling probe that led to the resignation of Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll on Tuesday has fueled support in the Florida Legislature for a ban on the Internet cafes in the state, after years of attempts to crack down on the “casinos on the corner” have gone nowhere.
House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, and Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, put a possible ban on the fast track Wednesday, scheduling committee meetings on Friday and Monday to take up proposals aimed at putting the Internet cafes out of business.
