The state Senate approved a ban on texting-while-driving, positioning Florida to become the nation’s 40th state with a smackdown on smartphones.
The measure is a weaker version of what supporters sought. And Sen. Nancy Detert, Senate sponsor of the measure, gave it a measured assessment.
